As noted in my post Energy Insanity In Germany. These People are Nuts!, the massively idiotic German "government" is determined to shut down the remainder of it's nuclear power plants by end of 2022 in their quest to reach the nirvana of nearly all "renewable" energy. This is what a false idol looks like. They are in the midst of climate hysteria and irrational worship of the God of renewable power.
These people will remain in the grip of "climate change insanity" until they face a possible failure of their grid or their other suppliers (discussed below).
Today, UK and EU natural gas prices have soared today to the oil price equivalent of $341 USD per barrel of oil!! German power prices have soared to $0.48 USD per Kilowatt-hour. (The US average is about $0.10 per kW-hr)
Northern EU Natural Gas Prices Reach the Equivalent of $341 USD per barrel of oil |
Part of this is this crisis is due to the inability of the Germans to approve the NordStream 2 gas pipeline that is now ready and waiting to provide cheap and abundant natural gas supplies from Russia. It's especially crazy since natural gas inventories in Germany and the EU are already too low for this time of the year.
Electric power prices (spot mkt prices presumably) in Germany have also soared when the demand for heating homes is higher, like, you know, during winter.
Germany's Electrical Power Cost Hits $0.48 US per kW-Hr compare to the US average of about $0.10 per kW-hr |
Germany already has a high-voltage power cables with Norway that run on the seabed to provide 1,400 MW of power. A subsea power cable to Sweden is also complete with 600 MW potential. Germany also has power connections with the French grid powered substantially by nuclear reactors. These connections may allow them to survive periods of "no wind" and nearly non-existant solar power in the normally-cloudy winter months (at 50 deg North Latitude). These connections to other country's grids are also vitally necessary in summer when Germany is producing EXCESS solar power on sunny days in the summer. They have to emergency-dump excess solar power to other countries or risk grid failure.
It is these robust electric cable connections with the sane, real and reliable power grids of neighboring countries is what allows the Germans to live in a dream world of renewable energy without a nearly 100% base- load conventional fossil or nuclear fuel backup.
I've mentioned before that large-scale renewable wind and solar power requires near-100% baseload backup by conventional or nuclear power plants. Therein lies the problem with large-scale (>10 to 25% of the total power generated by) intermittent solar and wind power: the installed total generation capacity is DOUBLE (the expensive wind and solar plants PLUS near-100% fossil/nuke power plant backup). How can doubling the capital invested ever be considered economic?? There are instabilities in this arrangement as we're seeing.
But apparently even all of these connections are not good enough to prevent a real shortage of power as we see with spot power pricing (shown above). Perhaps it's because some 25% of France's nuclear plants (total of 56 plants) are offline for maintenance---which is very unusual at this time of year. Mind you, power consumption in
Europe is highest in the winter months. Also Germany is short of natural gas for clean natural gas generated electricity (as shown above). The evidence is in that this system is unstable. An advanced country cannot have an unstable power grid.
All this is happening as the German government is MANDATING ALL-ELECTRIC AUTOS in the future while reducing their stable base-load power generation to very low levels (or rely on energy imports).
See my posts Germany's Solar Projects are a Bust and Germany Abandons Nuclear Power.
The real wake up call will be when half to 3-Quarter of The German citizens finally wind up rioting all over the country. And what brings and what brings this song is wind half to 3/4 of the nation wind up, “powerless.” Nothing to heat with. I’ve been to Germany 7 times. 5 in the fall / winter. 2 in the summer. 1 time in July. 1 time in the latter part of August.
ReplyDeleteGermany has short summers, short falls and long winters. Just like North Dakota South Dakota Wyoming and Montana, you can get by without air-conditioning because the night temperatures will drop down in the 50s with no trouble. And depending upon the elevation, and I’m talking back here in Montana / Wyoming, I have seen summer nights easily hit in the high 40s very low 50s. Night, After night.
But I digress. Back to Germany. Yes you can get by without air-conditioning because there’s summers like Minnesota and Michigan are short. Even though Minnesota and Michigan can get humid during the summer and, once again, it depends upon where one lives in both of the states. If a person lives in the UP, “Upper-Peninsula” of Michigan, you can definitely get by without air-conditioning.
But, you cannot get by without heat of some type in Germany and I don’t care what part of the country you live in. All of this global warming, climate change, global cooling, whatever labels are going by now and whatever label you want to slap on it I don’t care. All of this comes from for 30+ years brainwashing elementary and high school and then college kids with data / statistics that have been skewed more times than porn stars have been fucked.
If anybody that reads my comment and you happen not to be brainwashed, if you ever got into a conversation with anyone that believes in such malarkey you know what winds up happening when they can’t prove their hypothesis. Are they wind up pitching a conniption fit no different then a 12 year old that finally runs in the somebody that means the word, NO.
And just like the 12 year old they’ve gotten away with everything they have for many years because they’ve never had anybody in their life up until you stand them down. They don’t know what to do with it or how to get around it. And it’s like something I read the other day.
“Are you really going to deprive yourself and your family all because of a temperature difference of possibly, 1 to 2 different degrees? In a 100 years from now? Are you?” I’m not.
(PART 1. My previous comment was to long. Way way to long. I got carried away because, this subject in particular has always aggravated my ass to no end. Climate change. Global warming. Global cooling. Whatever the hell the
ReplyDelete“LABEL-DU-JOUR is this month. Anyway, I had to delete all of this you will read below. But, I saved it because I felt like it needs to be posted for everybody to see.
The far left enviro insane wackos bring about so much destruction. And out of all other issues that are dear to me, like the hundreds of thousands of LOW TO NO SKILLED PIECES OF SHIT WET-BACKS that are just literally walking across our southern border, this is another issue that pisses me off. To no-end!!!!!!!!!)
Look what California or I should say look what Californians have,in store for them after what their shit for brains
Government / Governor has done. California’s village-idiot-Governor, Gavin Newsom, signed legislation that aims to ban the sale of gas-powered lawn equipment, generators, and other small engines designed for off-road use.
This new law builds from the executive order signed by Newsom in 2020 that bans the sale of new passenger cars powered by internal combustion engines in 2035. In the same order, Newsom calls for "100 percent zero-emission off-road vehicles and equipment," the phaseout of which must now be road mapped by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 2022 and officially put in place by 2024.
Say goodbye to the multi-billion-dollar off-road entertainment industry. All the Motocross
Dune Buggy / Sand -Rail etc business. This is really going to screw the state starting from the lower central part of the state, clean to the southern-end. This is the area that is so heavily involved with any and everything that has to do with going off road.
“For generations, off-road vehicle riders have flocked to this windy stretch of the Central Coast to camp on the shore, build bonfires in the sand, and gun their engines in the only state park in California that allows motor vehicles on the beach and dunes.
(I don’t believe this, whatsoever. Not, one word.)
And for nearly as long, the surfside playground of Oceano Dunes has generated anger among residents and conservationists, who complain that off-roaders have crushed endangered species beneath their wheels, disrupted sensitive habitat and sent clouds of unhealthy dust billowing into their neighborhoods.
Now, the staff of California’s powerful Coastal Commission is saying enough is enough.”
I highly recommend reading this article.

California Is Banning Small Engines. Here's What It Means
CARB says there are 16.7 million small engines in the state compared to 13.7 million passenger vehicles, drastically affecting emissions.
“ These fleets of small engines are responsible for a substantial amount of the state's emissions. In fact, CARB says that running a leaf blower for an hour is equivalent to driving a 2017 Toyota Camry for 1,100 miles.“
(I don’t believe one word of that whatsoever.)
