In my post The Crux of Our Black Problem, I try to explain the differences between the “genetic heritage” of US Blacks who arrived as slaves versus the European and Northern European populations that came to the North American continent. I propose that our cultural heritage, and our genetic heritage, explain the most fundamental traits of our personality, intelligence, interests and even behavior. There is a big difference between them. For all practical purposes, Many US Blacks don’t have much of a heritable culture at all. They desperately want one and often actively reject the prevailing White “culture.” This is fairly disastrous.
In the revised graphic from The Crux of Our Black Problem above, I highlight the bottom half of the black population with estimated IQ levels in blue rectangle. The stanford-binet intelligence tests indicate “intellectual age.” For a population with an 100 point median, the median is considered 18 years old, or an average white (western) adult. The Black median IQ at 82 corresponds to a mental age of 14.8 years old.
Let’s Focus On Just One Genetic Heritable Trait for a Moment: Intelligence
The Blue Rectangle above shows that ONE HALF of all blacks are BELOW 14.8 years mental age. Again, this is not that unusual in the world (and is not intended to be mean or derogatory), but it stands-out as dramatically low compared to the Anglosphere and the high IQ populations in East Asia. That ONE HALF below the median of 82 points stands out as “seriously limited” intellectually.
You would expect that HALF of black persons, who are low functioning would have difficulty coping with the ordinary requirements and demands of modern/daily life. With a mental age of ~12 to 14.8 yo, it’s quite easy to easily see that ONE HALF of Black kids are UNABLE to graduate from high school. And that’s what we are seeing. One half of Latino kids don’t graduate from high school.
From The Christian Science Monitor, they clarify that “The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) defines proficiency as “demonstrated competency over challenging subject matter,” which experts interpret as high achievement.” There is also an advanced level, a proficient level and a basic level for test results. Below is the NAEP results for Virginia in 2019. Note the “advanced” column (not highlighted) on the right:
From the chart, nearly 90% of Asian kids perform at “proficient” or “advanced.” Sixty percent (60%) of White students perform at “proficient” or “advanced.” For Virginia blacks, 19% perform at the higher categories. (All data here from VA.)
But about 56% of black students can do basic level academic work and do receive diplomas that “certify” to that students and his/her parents that they have met the standards for HS grads. Note that 56% of blacks can perform at Basic, 16% at “proficient” and 3% at “advanced.”
But that means that 44% of Blacks are BELOW “basic” —which may mean “inadequate” or unable to graduate?? Some 18% of Whites and 33% of Hispanics did not meet even “basic” levels—which presumably means inadequate/not able to graduate from HS. This is probably a fair assessment as 50% of Latinos and Blacks don’t graduate/drop-out of HS. It wouldn’t surprise me if 18% of whites drop out of HS nationwide.
This half of young Black people not graduating and/or dropping out should probably be expected to need extensive supervision and care by both family and institutions. Many find themselves in trouble with police and up to 37.5% of black kids who don’t graduate high school will spend time in prison/jail—it’s a large number. In the US, there is a plurality of blacks in prison, even though they are only 1/8th of our population.
The truth is that this country has a huge problem with criminality in young black men and black men in general. Young black men are prone to be criminals at rate at least 5 or 6 times more often than whites (10X in urban areas). One-in-nine adult black men is in prison at this very moment.
Since Hispanics/Latinos score somewhat better than blacks, with their group’s median IQ of 89 or so, they also have many individuals struggling with the requirements of ordinary life. (And it doesn’t help that ordinary life struggles are worsening for ALL working class portions of our populations as our economy is hollowed-out by “globalization.”) Again only about 50% of Latinos graduate from high school. Many of them also find themselves in trouble with the police.
For ALL of these kids not able to graduate High School, many join the military or get basic jobs or even apprenticeships. It’s not the end of the world, though.
I’ve consistently called for trade schools for ALL the kids who are not “college-bound.” Practical skills, plus reading, writing and arithmetic that lead to apprenticeships would be enormously useful. Trade schools used to be more prevalent, but I’m not sure about that. Maybe someone could clue me in on this subject?
But, from a cultural standpoint, Latinos are better than Blacks at taking care of their own people. For instance, you’ll only rarely see a Latino beggar at street corners. It’s because they have deeper cultures, intact families and roots in church and community which allows families to take care of their own. Crucially then, they share a common thread or influence from our country’s European cultural heritage and are thus more compatible with the White population. That is a key, critical point. And there are far less Latinos in prison compared to Blacks even though their HS drop-out rate is similar.
Blacks are basically disconnected with Euro/Western culture in so many ways; but not all obviously. And, it’s true that it’s not their fault. Their roots are African as mentioned above and in The Crux of our Black Problem. Good News: There Are Many Different Types of “Intelligence” or Talent
Remember, IQ was designed to predict academic success and it works in that regard reasonably well but are used with other indications of motivation, drive, social skills, interests, maturity etc. Not every field of study or human activity is academic though. There’s more to life than school, ie., music, art, performance art, sports, mechanical/repair, etc.
I’m going to state the obvious: there are many different kinds of intelligence. There’s emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, artistic and musical intelligence, mechanical intelligence/skills, sport skill intelligence. I believe that everyone is born with some skill or ability. The hard part is to identify your gift! But you have one! Take a look at the graphics below:
